President Trump announced that current White House Secretary Will Scharf will assume the role of Assistant to the President and White House Counsel starting September 1, succeeding David Walington. Trump praised Scharf for his outstanding performance during his tenure as White House Secretary, noting that Scharf previously served as the chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission and helped facilitate the commission's approval of a multi-million dollar project for the White House banquet hall.
