Marc Cucurella Keeps His Promise and Tattoos Luis De La Fuente After the 2026 World Cup
The excitement in Spain after winning the 2026 World Cup is still ongoing. This time, the protagonist is Marc Cucurella, who fulfilled the promise he made before the tournament and tattooed the face of Luis de La Fuente on the back of his left arm.
The new signing for Real Madrid pledged in June that if they won the title, he would get a tattoo. Finally, after several oaths that were overlooked, he explained it before the campaign for the World Cup began. "If we win the World Cup, I will get a tattoo of Luis de la Fuente's face. Small, but I think it will be a good memory. We would have to think about the location. I would sign the tattoo, and then we would have to consider the place and where," he stated.
On the other hand, one of the promises he has not yet fulfilled is to retire from the Spanish National Team. In an interview with Movistar, he said: "If we win the Cup, I will call Luis (de la Fuente) the next day and tell him not to count on me anymore, that I am retiring from the national team. With a Euro Cup and a World Cup, I can't aspire to anything better," he affirmed before winning the second star.
While a more common and easier commitment to fulfill would have been to cut his hair, he stated a few days ago that he did not want to do that because his son with autism, Mateo, would not be able to recognize him on the field and that he keeps it long so that he knows where he is standing.
After Cucurella has fulfilled his part, there are several players from Spain who still need to fulfill theirs. Some who will follow the same path as the left-back are Borja Iglesias and Álex Baena, who will have to get theirs in a visible place; the latter has already confirmed that he will get it on his left leg, where he has most of his football-related tattoos.
Others who also decided to get a mark on their skin, but not with the coach's face, rather something related to the World Cup, are David Raya and Fabián Ruiz. Both have not confirmed the realization of theirs, but they have given their word that they will do it.
Those who went for something more traditional, like changes in looks, were Ferran Torres, the goal scorer in the final against the Argentine National Team, who said he is going to shave his head; Lamine Yamal, who committed to growing a beard and mustache; and finally, Pedri and Gavi promised to dye their hair blonde and pink, respectively.
The only one who deviated from the script and went for something different was Mikel Oyarzabal. The top scorer for Spain in the 2026 World Cup, with 5 goals, promised that if they won, he would become a member of Athletic Club de Bilbao. The curious thing about this is that he plays in the classic rival, Real Sociedad, which made it one of the most complicated oaths to fulfill.
