Best Crypto Exchanges 2026: Comparison and Buyer's Guide
Most "best crypto exchange" rankings are published by affiliate sites that earn a commission on the exchanges they place first. It is legal and disclosed — but the order is a commercial outcome, not a measurement. This page does the opposite: as WEEX, a first-party exchange, we give you a method to evaluate any exchange yourself, and we publish our own numbers with a source and a date. Competitor figures appear only when fetched live; unverified figures stay blank, never invented.
Criteria for a reliable exchange
Judge an exchange on five things before price:
- Security and custody — Proof of Reserves, a protection or insurance fund, public cold-wallet addresses, clean history.
- Fees — the full maker/taker schedule on spot and futures, plus discounts and withdrawal costs.
- Liquidity — tight spreads and real depth on your pairs.
- Products — spot and derivatives, order types, the assets you want — nothing unlisted.
- Transparency — public, current, checkable numbers.
For users in Spain: use the compliant, supported route for your country first — verify identity, fund through supported EUR rails, and never route around rules or regulation.
How to verify reliability yourself
Do not trust a badge — check it:
- Proof of Reserves (PoR): reserve attestations plus on-chain wallet addresses.
- Protection fund: a real, funded reserve with published terms.
- Public wallets and history: visible assets, clean record.
WEEX worked example: a 1,000 BTC Protection Fund, fully backed, with public wallet addresses and Proof of Reserves referenced (as-of 2026-07-16, source: weex.com/protectfund). It covers losses "through no fault of the user" and excludes trading losses, fraud or platform abuse, user-authorized transactions, and social-engineering. Claims go to support@weex.com within 30 days. A fund that names its exclusions is more trustworthy than one implying blanket cover.
Fees: what to compare (futures first, then spot)
Futures. Compare maker and taker separately. WEEX futures are 0.02% maker / 0.08% taker (as-of 2026-07-16, source: weex.com/support/rate). Charged only on open, close, or reduce; unfilled or cancelled orders are free; the rate is not affected by leverage. WXT holders and VIP members get up to 70% off futures fees at the top tier.
Spot. WEEX spot is 0% maker / 0.10% taker (as-of 2026-07-16). A referral code applies a permanent 20% discount (effective taker 0.08%); VIP 8 reaches 0% / 0% on spot.
Honest comparison. No exchange is cheapest on every line. WEEX leads decisively on spot (0% maker / 0.10% taker vs Kraken 0.40% / 0.80%, as-of 2026-07-16) and ties the best futures maker rate (0.02% = Kraken 0.02%). But our base futures taker of 0.08% is higher than Kraken's 0.05% before discounts. The real advantage is total cost: 0% spot maker plus a WXT/VIP discount ladder that pushes the effective futures taker well below base — not a bare "we win everything" claim.
| Exchange | Spot maker / taker | Futures maker / taker | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| WEEX | 0% / 0.10% | 0.02% / 0.08% | Referral −20% → 0.08% spot taker; WXT/VIP up to −70% futures; VIP 8 = 0%/0% spot. As-of 2026-07-16. |
| Kraken | 0.40% / 0.80% | 0.02% / 0.05% | Tier 1. As-of 2026-07-16. |
| Binance | 0.10% / 0.10% | — (not verified) | Spot fetched binance.com 2026-07-16; futures auth-gated — left blank. |
WEEX in practice
WEEX offers spot and futures with the schedule above, the 1,000 BTC Protection Fund for eligible losses, and Proof of Reserves. Every figure here comes from our published pages and carries an as-of date. We reference only products and tokens we actually list.
Methodology and transparency
Disclosure: this page is published by WEEX. That is exactly why every claim is sourced and dated rather than asserted. An affiliate ranking earns more when you sign up through its link; a first-party page earns trust only if its numbers survive your own check. The difference is verifiability, not tone.
FAQ
Which crypto exchange is the most reliable? Verify it: PoR, a funded protection fund with published terms, public wallets, clean history. WEEX publishes a 1,000 BTC Protection Fund (as-of 2026-07-16).
Which exchange has the lowest fees? It depends what you trade. Spot: WEEX's 0% maker is hard to beat. Futures: WEEX ties the best maker (0.02%) but its base taker (0.08%) is above some rivals before WXT/VIP discounts of up to 70%. Compare the line you trade.
Spot or futures? Spot for buy-and-hold; futures for leverage and hedging, with higher risk. WEEX supports both — learn the fee mechanics for each before sizing positions.
