SK Hynix Launches ADR Conversion Mechanism with Korean Stocks
SK Hynix's American Depositary Receipts (ADR, ticker: SKHY) listed on the NASDAQ officially launched a conversion mechanism with its domestic Korean stocks starting today. Investors can convert their ADRs into Korean stocks or vice versa, providing greater flexibility for cross-border trading. This move follows SK Hynix's completion of approximately $26.5 billion in ADR issuance and listing in early July, further enhancing the global liquidity of its shares. Each ADR corresponds to one-tenth of a Korean stock, and currently, the ADRs are trading at a certain premium on the U.S. market. Actual conversions cannot be completed on the same day and require processes involving the depositary bank (Citibank), foreign exchange declarations, and administrative procedures, typically taking several business days. Applications are mainly submitted through brokers to KSD/depositary banks, and the execution of trades and arbitrage effects will be influenced by the trading hours of Korean and U.S. markets (Korean stocks trade during the day, while U.S. stocks trade at night).
