Ripple Expands Research Collaboration with NYU Abu Dhabi, Supporting Over $1 Million

Ripple has renewed its blockchain research collaboration with NYU Abu Dhabi for 2024, increasing its cumulative support to over $1 million. This collaboration extends the partnership that began in 2021, with the Abu Dhabi SME Hub announcing that Ripple has renewed its strategic partnership through the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). The funding will be used for research projects and student-led activities. Lise Merrick, Ripple's Head of Middle East and Africa, mentioned the collaboration with the Dubai International Financial Centre and outlined a strategy to connect blockchain technology with startups and established institutions. UBRI is a program that supports blockchain research, education, and technology development at universities, focusing on long-term collaboration. NYU Abu Dhabi was the first partner to join UBRI and has established a structure to support education and research related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Professors presented research on digital currencies at the Volta Initiative event held on September 10-11, 2024. Ripple's university collaboration is related to expanding regulatory and business foundations within the UAE, with a principal approval from the Dubai Financial Services Authority announced in October 2024. In 2025, Ripple USD was recognized as a fiat-backed token in the Abu Dhabi Global Market. Ripple announced the expansion of its headquarters within the Dubai International Financial Centre in 2026, continuing its research, regulatory approvals, and regional presence expansion.
