OpenAI Allows Free ChatGPT Users Unlimited Access to GPT-5.6 Luna, Astra Release Delayed

OpenAI has announced that free ChatGPT users and low-cost Go plan users can access the GPT-5.6 lightweight model Luna without limits, restricted to text conversations only. File uploads, image generation, and voice conversations remain subject to the original limits. GPT-5.6 Luna is the fastest model in the GPT-5.6 series but has relatively lower performance, with a new "Think" option that extends inference time. Additionally, OpenAI has improved the top-tier GPT-5.6 model Sol for Plus and Pro users, enhancing the reliability of factual information such as numbers, dates, and sources. OpenAI has also decided to postpone the release of the next-generation model Astra, as internal evaluations in coding and cybersecurity have shown strong capabilities, potentially reaching a "dangerous" rating, and related internal activities have been temporarily suspended.
