Mistral has announced the start of hosting third-party open models, with the first model being Z.ai's GLM-5.2 from Zhipu. This model will run on Mistral's infrastructure, enjoying the same regional control and service guarantees as its own models. Mistral has previously attracted attention due to its similar architecture to DeepSeek, and the introduction of a Chinese model has sparked community discussions, suggesting a redefinition of European sovereign AI. Mistral emphasizes that the model does not need to be trained by a European company; the key is that enterprises can choose the model and control its operating location, data storage, and computing power. Therefore, Zhipu's model running on Mistral's European infrastructure can still be considered "European sovereign AI."
