Farmer Asks AI for Weeding Formula, Resulting in 150 Acres of Sesame Dying

In Chuzhou, Anhui, 67-year-old farmer Wu asked a national AI chat assistant for methods to weed and pest control in his sesame field. The AI generated a pesticide formula. After Wu applied the formula, the next day, 150 acres of sesame and weeds wilted together, resulting in losses of over 100,000 yuan. The main issue was with the herbicide flumioxazin, which is suitable for soybean fields, but sesame seedlings are sensitive to it. Local agricultural technicians stated that this chemical should not be sprayed across the entire sesame field, as it would cause both crops and weeds to die. When Wu inquired about the reason, the AI finally indicated that flumioxazin could be the main cause of the sesame seedlings' death. The customer service of the involved platform stated they would investigate the source of the erroneous information but have not yet announced a compensation plan. The AI's response cannot be retracted, and the consequences of the pesticide application cannot be reversed.
