Coinbase's Base app will become less tied to its blockchain as new leader Jordan 'Cobie' Fish aims to create a comprehensive trading platform, according to Base creator Jesse Pollak. Pollak stated that the app is experiencing increased demand in tokenization, trading, payments, and financing. Fish's leadership, which began last month, allows Pollak to concentrate on the Base blockchain itself. Previously, the app focused on expanding the Base ecosystem with products built on its network. Under Fish, the app will integrate assets and features from other blockchains. Pollak emphasized the need for Base to compete effectively by offering the best assets and liquidity. Currently, users can trade various assets across multiple crypto ecosystems on the Base app, with new products like prediction markets and perpetual futures being introduced. Pollak noted that the Base network holds nearly 5 billion dollars in decentralized finance assets and processes over 1 billion dollars in daily trading volume. He views the entry of competitors like Robinhood and Stripe as validation of Base's strategy, stating that the growing interest in on-chain financial products is energizing. Pollak believes the financial system is at the beginning of a significant transformation.
