Altcoin perpetual futures open interest decreased by about 15% over the past month, while Bitcoin (BTC) increased by approximately 8%. Altcoins are struggling to attract investor interest without a significant rally in BTC. BTC has become more integrated into capital markets through ETFs, institutional hedging, basis trades, and use as collateral, whereas most altcoins lack a solid foundation. Many projects have not demonstrated a clear structure for how token value benefits investors, making them more vulnerable in the current bearish market. The decline in altcoin interest is also linked to weakness in tech stocks, with market participants anticipating a return of funds that exited crypto during the AI investment boom.
